Michael Spezzaferro A native New Yorker, Mike learned his basic woodworking skills from his father who was both a machinist and a carpenter. Most of his early works were simple items made from pine. His current line of clocks and boxes are typically made from hardwoods such as maple, oak, walnut or mahogany. Many of his items combine exotic woods such as paduak, purpleheart and wenge into colorful laminations. Mike prefers not to use any stains but enjoys letting the natural colors of the wood show. He also makes bandsaw boxes from tree limbs and trunks that he finds in the woods. "You never know what shape or form the box will take until you start to cut it and take advantage of nature's form." His latest endeavor is making beautiful pens and pencils from a variety of woods and wood burls. Email Mike Spezzaferro |
